Inheritance: A Fisherman’s Story
"I was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1976. At the age of 14, with my mum and two sisters, we moved to Brisbane, Australia. After making some independent short features and a few mini docs for Australian TV stations in 1996, I made the decision to move towards working with the long documentary form.
As I completed the Film and TV course at Queensland College of Art, I began making Grandfathers and Revolutions, a story about my Grandfather who called in the Soviet troops to quash the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. The film took two years to make. It has won many International awards and has been sold to many TV stations around the World.
In 2000, at the age of 24, I began making my first feature length documentary as an international co-production. Inheritance, a fisherman’s story is based on the ecological disaster that occurred in Hungary caused by an Australian mining company.
The film follows the life of a fisherman Balazs Meszaros who struggles to survive after the disaster. Balazs travels to Australia to confront the mining company responsible. The film won many international awards and it was also preselected for the 2004 Academy Awards.
Following the success of my documentaries, I have moved onto new challenges that include Redemption, a short drama which has just been completed. I feel Redemption reflects my company’s Soul Vision Films’ motto very well: it is to produce and direct films that provide insight into the human condition and essentially help make this world a better place.
Now, in 2004, I am writing a feature film titled Home coming which I hope to shoot in 2006 in Hungary."
