Olga and Márta, descendants of the ancient Baán family, return to their mansion where the family once lived. Márta and her husband, Victor arrive from Vienna with their twins to spend a summer together with Olga and her little daughter, Mariann in the run-down mansion. Olga, a young widow, would like to leave Budapest for good and live in the mansion. Strange happenings follow their arrival as if the Baán ghosts were still about. None of the women know that the place is under a curse. Olga and Victor begin a passionate love affair. It is a painful, hopeless affection because they both tenderly love Márta. However, they cannot suppress their feelings. The odd happenings become ever stranger. The ghosts of their ancestors are all over the house now. Márta's despair is heightened by her existing suffering from jealousy and suspicion. The girl's wise and respected uncle, Gábor arrives late. He can see the silent life-and-death struggle between Olga, Victor and Márta but they ignore his warning to leave the cursed house which had already ruined his life. Nobody listens to him. Desires break loose and the most hidden dreams become true...reality or just a play of imagination: It seems time has stopped in the mansion of the Baáns.
