Eighteen years old in 1944, János is studying for A level examinations, which some students sit for with yellow stars stigmatizing them. In Országház Café János also gets trained as an assistant fireman and meets a waitress, Nusi. From June on he has to work in forced labour camps in Felsőhangony, Kecskemét, Dinnyés. Dressed as a woman, he escapes near the wetern border of the country, but soon he gets caught. The subject and moderator of the film is searching a decisive part of his past, while giving us the key to the work of János Hreskó, a most remarkable personality in Hungarian film history.
