One Day like any other, a man’s Day, somewhere on the outskirs of the City, in a run-down room. In the throes of getting up, his quivering, searching hands amongst the empty bottles. A face grins back in the mirror, escaping. A shabby coat over his pijamas. A 2 kilo loaf of bread. Burning spirits in his throat. And there is that other man on the tram. He strikes out for him, getting there, getting there late. This day resembles any other day which has passed, yet it differs from all others. This is the last one. Inspired by the late Péter Hajnóczy, this film depicts the quintessential descent into hell by two highly accomplished actors, István Holl, and Miklós B. Székely, further supported by András Szigeti in his last film role. Mention must also be made of the outstanding contribution by Gábor Migray, as sound engineer, who also passed away following the completion of this film. János Szász 1999
