Variations on an Actor (Mimovideo I.)
(Variációk egy színészre (Mimovideo I.))
(1993, documentary, video, colour, 55 min., DolbySR)
Director of photography:
We try to penetrate the great spiritual effort of acting - a game with empathy - and through the process of continuous emotional training invoking immortal characters, Dostoyevsky's Prince Miskin and Puskin's Mozart and Salieri, from two great classical works. What gives rise to this unique experiment is that all these parts were performed and made legendary by the great Russian actor, Innokenty Smoktunosvsky. He played and lived these parts at different times in his career. Fragments of archive films on past performances and shots of his guest performance in Budapest in 1993 are amalgammated into a polyphonic "chord" of artistic expression which affects everybody to the great delight of an audience which longs to see pure art.
