Jury’s Favourite: Maestro

At the Bégles "Les Nuits Magiques" organised near Bordeaux, Maestro by Géza M. Tóth won the Jury’s Special Prize.


Maestro by Géza M. Tóth was the jury’s favourite in Bégles, near Bordeaux. At the "Les Nuits Magiques" International Animation Film Festival organised for the 15th time this year, the 5-minute 3D animation was awarded the Jury’s Special Prize. This is 12th award won abroad by Géza M. Tóth’s venture, the film represented the Hungarian animation at nearly 30 international festivals in Europe, America and Asia. Since its premiere in Annecy, Maestro has won prestigious awards at festivals in Aubagne, Belgrade, Bucharest and Espinho.

The Prague-based One World film festival in cooperation with its partners in Poland (Cracow Film Festival), Hungary (Hungarian Film Week) and Slovakia (One World Bratislava) created the annual Visegrad Award, which will be given for one recently released documentary at each of these festivals. The first Hungarian Visegrad Award will be made at this year’s Hungarian Film Week. We asked Igor Blažević about the award.

Festgoers of the international film business

More than 120 professionals, film critics and reporters from around the world accepted the invitation to the 36th Hungarian Film Week this year, a fest that plays an outstanding role in the international promotion of Hungarian films. Besides handing over the traditional Gene Moskowitz Prize of international critics, this year, for the first time, the Visegrád Award for best documentary is also to be given out.
