The film is a moving portrayal of a small-time criminal's search for justice after his autistic sister is raped. The film stars Jozsef Kadas as the young crook and Matyassy's wife, Terez Vass, as the sister. Produced by Istvan Bodzsar of Unio Film, the film does not yet have an international sales agent.
The Gene Moskowitz prize, awarded by foreign film critics attending the festival, went to Father's Acre, the debut film from Viktor Oszkar Nagy. A remarkably mature work, the film is a tragedy about an ex-convict's attempts to reconcile with his son and their contest for the love of the same woman. Producer Peter Miskolczi of Eurofilm Studio is looking for a sales agent.
Unlike in recent years, this edition of the festival did not have an international jury. A jury of Hungarian film professionals, led by director Marta Meszaros, considered the 18 features in competition.
Peter Gardos was named Best Director for his work on Prank, a drama about Catholic schoolboys in the early 20th century. Best Actor went Andor Lukats for his performances in two films: Prima Primavera and Fluke. Julia Ubrankovics was awarded Best Actress for her role in Virtually A Virgin.
Pater Sparrow's sci-fi tale 1 received four awards: Best Cinematography for Mate Toth Widamon; Best Editor for Wanda Kiss; Best Visual Design for the team of Fruzsina Lanyi, Pater Sparrow and Judit Varga; The film's producer for Attila Csaky was named Best Producer for his work on 1 and on Paper Planes.
