This Tuesday, the 36th edition of Hungary's most important cinema event, the Hungarian Film Weekis starting in Budapest.

This Tuesday, the 36th edition of Hungary's most important cinema event, the Hungarian Film Weekis starting in Budapest. Until the 8th of February, the best of this year's national productions will be put on the screen at the Mammut Multiplex and the Millennium Center. 21 full length fiction works are in competition , amongst which 11 have never been shown before. 36 short films and 42 documentaries will be running. Some of the films presented in Budapest were also selected for the upcoming Berlin Film Festival, Dallas Among Us (Dallas Pashamende)by Adrián Pejo, also chosen for the opening of the Hungarian event, and Fateless (Sorstalanság) by Lajos Koltai, which will end the Film Week.

Over 120 professionals and journalists are expected this year to attend the event and ackowledge the increasing popularity of the Hungarian cinema. A set of specialists in all categories will be sent from The Cannes Film Festival. They will meet selection committee members from other Festivals: Locarno, Karlovy Vary, and Moscow. Special gatherings will be organised to focus on documentary films. For instance, a special debate will be taking place on the 4th of February, under the supervision of the MEDIA Desk hongrois and Magyar Filmunio, an organisation dedicated to promote Hungarian cinema abroad.
