2008 EFA list announced: Kornél Mundruczó's DELTA is among the 44 titles on the European Film Academy's pre-selection list for upcoming European Film Award nominations.
Hungary is represented by Kornél Mundruczó's Delta on the European Film Academy's pre-selection list for 2008 European Film Award nominations.
The 20 countires - among others Hungary - with the most EFA memebers voted one national film directly onto the selection list. To complete the pre-selection list, a Committee (consisting of EFA Board members and invited experts) has included further films.
In the coming weeks, the 1800 members of the Academy founded by Ingmar Bergman and Wim Wenders will select the nominations in the different categories. The list of the nominations will be announced November 8 at the Seville Film Festival. On the 6th December, the European Film Awards will be handed out in 15 categories in Copenhagen, among others the Best European Film, Director, Cinematographer, Screenwriter, Actress, Actor and Composer.
Kornél Mundruczó (33), an outstanding figure of the young Hungarian director generation, became known with the short, Day after Day (2001) and with his first feature, Pleasant Days (2002) awarded with Locarno’s Silver Leopard.
Delta is a film by Mundruczó and his permanent creative partner, Viktória Petrányi. The screenplay was written by Yvette Bíró and Kornél Mundruczó, Delta was photographed by Mátyás Erdély. The leading female character is played by Orsi Tóth, who has been present in all Mundruczó films since Pleasant Days. Félix Lajkó, the world famous violinist from Novi Sad can be seen on the screen for the first time as the leading male character of Delta.
In Hungarian-German coproduction, Delta was produced by Viktória Petrányi (Proton Cinema), Susanne Marian (Essential Filmproduktion) and Ági Pataki, Gábor Kovács (Filmpartners) and supported by the Motion Picture Public Foundation of Hungary, the National Cultural Fund and TV2.
Paris based Coproduction Office handles world sales rights.

In February, the world premiere of Delta was hosted by Hungary's national showcase, the 39th Hungarian Film Week where it won the "Golden Reel" main prize, the Best Original Music (Félix Lajkó) and foreign critics’ Gene Moskowitz Prize. The international premier took place at the Festival de Cannes where among highly interesting competitors, the FIPRESCI jury presided by Howard Feinstein favorized Delta. Following the Cannes succes Mundruczó's 3rd feature was awarded CICAE Prize at the Sarajevo IFF in August.
Delta also competes for European Parliament LUX Prize: Mundruczó's film, Le silence de Lorna and Obcan Havel, the three finalists were chosen by a 17-member jury representing the cream of the EU film industry.
The North American premier of Kornél Mundruczó's 3rd feature takes place at Toronto IFF's Discovery programme this week, screening information: www.tiff08.ca
