symphony42_100Réka Bucsi’s diploma film, SYMPHONY NO.42 has been selected for the Berlinale short film competition. The ten-minute digital drawing animation was made at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest (MOME) with the support of the Hungarian National Film Fund.

Following on the success of Csaba Varga, István Orosz, Ferenc Cakó, Géza M. Tóth and Zoltán Szilágyi Varga, the young animation film director, Réka Bucsi is introduced in the Berlinale Shorts competition of the A-category festival. The 2013 diploma film of the former MOME Animation department student, Symphony no.42, has been selected for the competition of the prestigious festival and can compete for the Best Short Film's Golden Bear.
The 64th Berlinale will be hely between 6th and 16th February in the German capital; the creators of the competing Hungarian animation will participate at the world premier in Berlin.

"Based on an unconventional narrative, the Symphony no.42 animation film presents a subjective world through 47 scenes. The small events interlaced by associations express the irrational coherence of our surroundings. The surreal situations are based on the interactions of human and nature," says the film’s synopsis. According to Réka Bucsi, "the film is based on an interesting human behaviour: when witnessing an unknown situation, we unconsciously put it in context according to our own ideas."

Réka Bucsi graduated at the Animation MA course of MOME in 2013, presently she participates in the Animation Sans Frontiéres (ASF) international animation workshop.

Since 2012 the Hungarian National Film Fund has been supporting the diploma and workshop films made at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest, the ELTE Film Department and the University of Theatre and Film Budapest with an annual 70 million HUF. The aim is to create opportunities for practice and experimentation for the young talents, to support emerging filmmakers. As a result, about 40 short films per year are made at the three institutions.

MOME Animation: The department is one of the defining creative workshops and intellectual centres of Hungarian animation. Its scope of activities cover the operation of the university department running the animation BA and MA educational programs, while its work is defined by activities that reach beyond education. Production activities are of key importance, talent management and content development set in an international network are of significant role: an important outcome is the creation and operation of incubator programs. The acquisition of research topics examining the contemporary issues related to animation film in regional, historical or other contexts is also part of the workshop’s life.
